The First APP Abstract Session

Four advanced practice providers presented data from their own practices.

Does Post-Ablation Scanning Still Earn Its Place?

A review of 695 thermal ablations with routine duplex at two weeks found 47 thrombotic findings, including 2.5 percent with extension into the deep system or pulmonary embolism. Guidelines no longer require routine scans in asymptomatic average risk patients, and several people in the room had scaled back, but the presenter argued that ordinary post-procedure symptoms are hard to separate from thrombosis without imaging.

Wounds, Clot and Systems

  • Biologic dressings: two ulcers healed using amnion or fish skin grafts alongside ablation, foam and lymphedema therapy, with close attention to coverage rules.
  • A response team cut mean length of stay from 13.5 to 7.8 days and all cause mortality from 8 to 5 percent, with more mechanical thrombectomy and less systemic lysis.
  • Round trip transfer: a framework for bringing community patients in for intervention and returning them within 24 hours, which stands or falls on objective selection criteria.
