New Trials Session: Stents, Valves, and Thrombectomy Updates
Venous Stenting and Valve Trials
The C TRACT trial continues enrolling patients to compare iliac vein stenting against medical therapy for post thrombotic syndrome, while the VIVID trial reported 98.7 percent freedom from major adverse events and 90.2 percent primary patency at 12 months for a dual segment venous stent. The SAFE trial showed that a prosthetic venous valve produced a clinically meaningful reduction in venous severity scores for patients with deep reflux and no other surgical option.
Devices, Complications, and Technique
A randomized crossover trial found a portable non pneumatic compression device reduced limb volume and improved quality of life more than advanced pneumatic compression for lymphedema. A Japanese survey found hypersensitivity or granuloma reactions in about 7 percent of cyanoacrylate closures, and a new trial compares saphenous sparing crossotomy to traditional crossectomy.
VTE Prevention and DVT Trials
A large UK trial is testing whether compression stockings add benefit to extended VTE prophylaxis after major surgery. Two new randomized trials, BOLT and DEFIANCE, are evaluating aspiration and mechanical thrombectomy devices against anticoagulation alone for iliofemoral DVT and post thrombotic syndrome prevention.
