Randomized Trials and Registry Outcomes

The C-TRACT trial continues enrolling patients with post-thrombotic syndrome to randomized iliac vein stenting versus medical therapy alone, while a review of ATTRACT and CAVENT data showed that pharmacomechanical therapy benefits patients with higher baseline Villalta scores but not routinely those with femoropopliteal disease. Registry data from the FLASH and CLOUT studies showed favorable safety and symptom outcomes for mechanical embolectomy in high-risk pulmonary embolism and for mechanical thrombectomy in iliofemoral DVT through one year, and a device comparison found large-bore thrombectomy achieved single-session success far more often than smaller catheters.

Risk Prediction and Basic Science Findings

A nationwide VA study of over a million admissions found Caprini and Padua risk scores had only modest predictive value for venous thromboembolism, while a trauma cohort study linked rising D-dimer levels to DVT detection. Basic science talks showed that factor XIII deletion reduced thrombus burden and inflammation in a mouse model, and that locally delivered dexamethasone reduced thrombus burden and vein wall fibrosis while improving blood flow restoration, supporting an ongoing clinical trial of local steroid therapy.
