Venoactive Drugs and Venous Aneurysms

A pharmacology-focused talk reviewed venoactive drug mechanisms, including effects on venous tone, valve competence, and leukocyte-endothelial interaction, along with guideline support for pain, heaviness, and venous leg ulcer healing, and ongoing trial data in post-thrombotic syndrome. A second talk reviewed venous aneurysms, most commonly popliteal, describing fusiform and saccular classification, flow disturbance and valve leaflet anomalies as likely drivers of wall dilation, and a surgical technique using venotomy and aneurysmal wall removal that produced low recurrence over long-term follow-up.

Registry Data and Deep Venous Unknowns

A registry-focused talk showed how VQI data has informed coverage decisions for older patients and milder disease, answered clinical questions about deep reflux and sex-based outcome differences, and assessed appropriateness of perforator vein treatment and accreditation standards. A closing talk outlined unresolved questions in deep venous disease, including inconsistent criteria for iliac vein compression, subjective inflow assessment, and the need for better tools to manage stent occlusion in post-thrombotic patients.
