AVF Patient Education Committee: Building Patient Resources
The Patient Education Committee’s Current Materials
Ten committee members create the forthcoming Healthy Veins Book written in layman language, downloadable procedure informed consent documents for physicians and institutions, five patient brochures for office use, and a Patient Issue newsletter collaboration.
Why Scientifically Accurate Patient Education Matters
Scientific articles are largely inaccessible to average patients, who often turn to unreviewed internet content instead. The committee sees its duty as delivering reliable, scientifically accurate information directly to patients through multiple accessible formats.
Expanding Reach: Translation, Multimedia, and the Outreach Survey
Plans include posters and interactive multimedia content, translating informed consent and brochures into Spanish for members outside the United States, and using the newly launched Patient Outreach Survey to learn what information patients are actually seeking.
How Members Can Contribute
Members can submit original patient pictures, diagnostic images, and videos to a shared image library via Dropbox, give feedback on informed consent documents, pre-order brochures, and suggest topics such as a planned lymphedema and venous ulcer brochure.
