JURY 1 Reshaped Insurance Policy

The original JURY trial, Junctional Reflux and Symptom Severity, was a multicenter study sponsored by the American Venous Forum through a Boston Scientific grant, enrolling 352 patients to ask whether junctional reflux changes a patient’s venous severity score. After adjusting for age, sex, race, ethnicity, and BMI, scores were equivalent whether or not junctional reflux was present, supporting treatment of symptomatic axial reflux regardless of junctional status, prompting policy changes at several insurers.

JURY 2 Tests Ablation Outcomes Directly

JURY 2 moves from observation to intervention, asking whether patients with great saphenous vein reflux without junctional reflux gain the same three-month improvement from ablation as those with junctional reflux. If the groups respond equally, the finding would support reimbursed ablation for patients without junctional reflux, a group some payers treat differently.

Enrollment And Next Steps

The multicenter study has now enrolled 263 patients against its original target of 252, with a mean baseline severity score around 6.35 and a similar distribution across sites. Three-month follow-up is still outstanding at two sites; the team then plans analysis, an abstract, and full publication.
