AVF Webinar: IVUS, Thrombectomy, and Filter Retrieval
IVUS: Reducing Missed Lesions and Improving Stent Patency
Venography alone missed iliac vein obstruction confirmed by IVUS in roughly a third to half of studied cases, changed treatment plans in over half of VIDIO trial patients, and routine IVUS use improved two year patency from 79 to 90 percent.
Next-Generation Aspiration Thrombectomy for Acute DVT
A newer aspiration thrombectomy device offers strong single-operator suction with a visible collection bag to monitor blood loss, demonstrated on a bilateral DVT case complicated by a retained IVC filter requiring suction clearance at the confluence.
IVC Filter Complications and Laser-Assisted Retrieval
Retrievable filters left too long risk fracture, perforation, and occlusion; a laser sheath ablating encasing scar tissue achieved 96 to 99 percent retrieval success independent of dwell time, while standard snare techniques fail in about 41 percent of cases after seven months.
Complex Filter Cases: Malposition and Retrieval Pearls
Cases of filters lodged near the aorta or malpositioned in the azygos vein causing diaphragmatic irritation showed that patience with laser activation, staged sheath upsizing, and individualized risk discussion enable safe retrieval even in unusual anatomic locations.
