AVF Early Career Committee: Mentorship and Practice Growth
The Early Career Committee’s Focus: Education and Mentorship
Chaired by Dr. John Carson, the committee focuses on education and mentorship for early career venous specialists, running a fall meeting, a spring meeting tied to the annual meeting, webinars throughout the year, and a dedicated mentorship program.
The Fall Meeting: Hands-On Training in Complex Venous Disease
The fall meeting gathers a small group of 20 to 30 early career specialists with experts for hands on training in complicated venous disease management that most training programs do not adequately cover, including complex deep venous problems.
Practice Development Challenges for New Venous Specialists
Venous practices are harder to establish than arterial ones, with frequent difficulty obtaining insurance approval for procedures and getting a vascular lab to perform the right studies, especially when starting a cosmetic or dedicated venous practice.
Previewing the Three-Day Spring Meeting Curriculum
The upcoming spring meeting spans three days: gender disparity and practice policy including insurance approval and lab accreditation, deep venous and pelvic insufficiency disease, and superficial venous disease with cosmetic practice topics rarely covered in training.
