Quick Shot Session: Iliocaval Thrombosis, Stenting and Cases
Iliocaval Obstruction, Thrombectomy and Stenting
Cases of central venous occlusion and May-Thurner syndrome were managed with single session suction thrombectomy achieving 86 percent technical success, triple antithrombotic therapy after redo recanalization for recurrent stent thrombosis, and iliac stents that stayed patent through subsequent pregnancy.
Comparing Venous Stenting and Ablation
A 726 patient survey of nonthrombotic iliac vein lesions found endovenous ablation and iliac vein stenting produced broadly similar swelling improvement, with roughly a sixth of patients reporting no benefit from either procedure, suggesting age and other factors shape outcomes.
Special Thrombosis Presentations
Case reports included pharmacomechanical thrombectomy resolving renal vein thrombosis in a lung transplant patient, and a series showing unmonitored weight based low molecular weight heparin under-dosed pregnant patients with iliofemoral DVT until anti-Xa levels were checked.
Diagnostic Pitfalls and Value of Care
A case highlighted nonuremic calciphylaxis mimicking warfarin skin necrosis, distinguishable only by biopsy, while separate studies found few quality YouTube videos teach DVT lysis technique and advanced compression devices lowered lymphedema costs versus simple ones.
