IVUS in Deep Vein Pathology: Insights from a Case Competition
Adam Reichert, a second-year vascular surgery fellow at TriHealth in Cincinnati, Ohio, shares his experience as one of four finalists in the IVUS Interesting Case Competition at the American Venous Forum meeting in San Antonio.
He discusses the importance of having intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) available when treating deep venous conditions, including acute iliofemoral or iliocaval deep vein thrombosis (DVT), post-thrombotic syndrome, nonthrombotic iliac venous lesions, and chronic iliocaval venous occlusions.
IVUS helps physicians assess venous compression, determine the appropriate stent diameter, and support accurate stent sizing while reducing the risk of migration or oversizing. Adam also highlights the educational and networking opportunities provided by the case competition and encourages physicians interested in deep venous disease to participate in future competitions.
