Meeting Welcome

Society leadership welcomes attendees, reviews AVF membership categories and history, and previews a case competition, a health-inequity session, and a doctors lounge for case discussion.

Iliac Vein Compression and Nutcracker Findings

A CT study finds over seventy percent left common iliac vein compression in more than half of asymptomatic patients aged thirteen to twenty, well above older-adult norms, so narrowing alone should not lower the intervention threshold. A Nutcracker series finds renal vein stretching over aortic compression predicts higher reoperation rates than direct compression, arguing for refined classification.

Hemodynamics and Imaging Reliability

An intravenous fluid bolus significantly increased pelvic vein cross-sectional area on ultrasound, dropping some patients below stenting thresholds. Radiologists and vascular specialists also frequently disagreed on cross-sectional imaging of deep venous stenosis, with specialists finding lesions radiology missed.

Toward Consensus on Nonthrombotic Lesions

A multisociety consensus statement backs stenting only for symptomatic disease meeting defined stenosis thresholds, favors long stents into the external iliac vein to reduce migration, and finds no consensus for routine post-stent anticoagulation.
