President's Session: AVF Leadership, Awards, and Research Vision
Journal, Membership, and International Reports
Leadership updates opened the session with growth in submissions and international reach for the Journal of Vascular Surgery Venous and Lymphatic, along with membership committee data showing steady renewal challenges and an international committee report describing new initiatives to expand global participation and support members from lower income countries.
Founders Award and the Presidential Address
The Founders Award recognized decades of contribution to venous basic science research. The outgoing president then reflected on AVF history and mentorship, highlighting this year’s priorities of addressing inequities in venous care and expanding international outreach within an updated strategic plan.
The Strandness Lecture: Generating Clinical Evidence
The Strandness Lecture traced how societies have generated medical evidence, from early trial designs to today’s registries, showing how thoughtfully designed studies using patients as their own controls or existing databases can answer clinical questions without the cost and delay of a full randomized trial, and describing the AVF’s own clinical trials infrastructure built to generate new evidence.
