Research Core Updates

BK Law reviewed Jury 1 and Jury 2 results showing junctional reflux does not affect
VCSS outcomes around GSV ablation, and outlined the Research Core partnership with the
Center for Vascular Research at the University of Maryland.

Glenn Jacobowitz presented the planned Jury 3 study, comparing isolated accessory
saphenous vein reflux to isolated GSV reflux across 250 patients at 12 centers, aimed
at insurance denials that label accessory vein treatment as experimental. Eri Fukaya
shared a survey on antithrombotic therapy after iliofemoral stenting, noting the lack
of trial evidence and a goal of building consensus.

Guideline Updates

Alicia Oropallo described the venous leg ulcer guideline revision, which screened
about 45,000 citations down to roughly 2,000 full text reviews. A key finding: biologic
skin substitutes are 40 percent more likely to achieve complete healing, with some
reaching over 60 percent closure.

Tom O’Donnell presented the lymphedema guideline, covering decongestive therapy and
surgery for refractory cases. Rafael Malgor presented the upper extremity DVT guideline,
recommending duplex ultrasound first. A closing panel discussed the challenges of
producing guidelines in house.
